Pune : (The Karbhari Online) – Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) collects property tax arrears from small defaulters by playing bands and implementing other similar schemes. Because only 1746 big people with arrears of more than 1 crore have paid 5182 crore to the Pune municipal corporation. This matter has come to light through RTI. In this regard, Velankar said that I had asked the property tax department of Pune Municipal Corporation for information about the properties with outstanding property tax of more than Rs 1 crore during the Right to Information Day on Monday. In reply to which I was given the enclosed information which is very shocking. Only 1746 defaulters have property tax arrears of more than Rs 1 crore and they have arrears of Rs 5182 crore. Out of these 94 cases are pending in various courts. In which the trapped amount is Rs 988 crore. In which the amount trapped in only two cases is Rs 565 crore.
Velankar further said that there are 1061 cases of Mobile Tower in which the trapped amount is Rs. 2427 crores. I was told that these cases are also pending in court for several years. All these cases are pending in the court for many years. This is a complete failure of the legal department. It is necessary for the municipal law and property tax department to set up a special cell and try to get the results of all these cases at the earliest. Even if at least half of these cases are decided in favor of the Municipal Corporation, the Municipal Corporation will be able to get an income of Rs. 1800 crores.
In this list, there are 184 cases of “double” taxation in which the impounded amount is Rs 576 crore. It is necessary to check and start the process of removing them from this list. 193 cases are shown as “dispute” in this list. In which the trapped amount is Rs 561 crore. It is necessary to resolve the “dispute” in these cases immediately and recover the money. Out of this, Rs 79 crores are due to the Defense Department and Rs 56 crores to the Mahadistribution. The arrears of the Irrigation Department is Rs 73 crores and its recovery needs to be done from the water strip that the Municipal Corporation gives to the Irrigation Department. Although the letter in this regard was given by the Head of Taxation to the Head of Water Supply Department five years ago, no action has been taken yet. It seems that the cases of many defaulters are not pending in court. Velankar also said.

There is a need for immediate recovery efforts from large defaulters. It is necessary to concentrate fully on these 1746 big cases and try for maximum recovery. Rather than wasting municipal resources in playing a band in front of the houses of defaulters who owe a few hundred rupees, all-out efforts must be made for recovery from these huge defaulters.
